Sister Soaring Joyously is the theme of the 2023 Women’s Conference of the San Diego North County African American Women’s Association from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Westin Resort in Carlsbad. The keynote speaker is Meme Styles, who founded MEASURE to promote using evidence-based projects and tools to tell real-life stories behind the numbers. The conference also features workshops for women and teens, such as, You Can’t Have It All: Debunking the Myth of a Balanced Life, Creative Journaling, Hip Hop Choreography, Depression and Suicide Cloaked in Shame in the African American Community. Annual Tip Top Run benefits lagoon

The annual Tip Top Run, a 5k/10k walk and run, is 8:30 a.m. Saturday March 18 at Agua Hedionda Lagoon. The fundraiser benefits Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation’s Academy of Environmental Stewardship serving school children. The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages, including corporate teams. Highlights include lunch from Tip Top Meats, donated this year in honor of owner John Haedrich; St. Patrick’s Day costume contest, World Water Day Festival, with magic show, at the end of the race and beer garden sponsored by Culver Beer. DNA genealogy group meet Saturday

The DNA Interest Group, sponsored by North San Diego County Genealogical Society, will meet from 1 to 2:30 PM, Saturday, March 18 at Georgina Cole Library, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive. This will be an in-person meeting and work session only. Long-time attendees are encouraged to assist newer attendees who should bring their computers and DNA genealogy research problems. Film festival set for next month

The 11th annual LUNAFEST film festival, a major fundraiser for Soroptimist International of Oceanside-Carlsbad, is set for 2 to 5 p.m. April 23 at the Carlsbad Public Library, 1775 Dove Lane. The festival will feature seven short films about women, made by female filmmakers. There will be a reception with food and beverages at intermission. ‘Mindful Walk’ Sundays at nature reserve

The Torrey Pines Docent Society offers a Mindful Walk at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve every Sunday from 8 to 10 a.m. starting March 12. The free guided walk invites visitors to “slow down, connect to their senses, breathe and be fully present in nature.” Meet at the Visitor’s Center near the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve upper parking lot. Humane society offers Pet Loss Support Program

The Pet Loss Support Program at Rancho Coastal Humane Society offers free, one-on-one, 20-minute telephone consultations for people who recently lost pets, have pets suffering from major illnesses, or are in the process of saying goodbye to pets. Upcoming counseling sessions include from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday March 18 . Inquiries must be made by 11 a.m. Friday. City accepting artist applications for 3D exhibits

The city of Encinitas Cultural Arts Division is looking for visual artists to feature in individual and group exhibits of 3D artworks to be displayed in the second half of 2023. Amateur and professional artists age 18 and older who live in Southern California can apply. Preference may be given to artists in San Diego County. Artworks must fit in exhibit cases. Applications must be emailed by 8 a.m. April 3 to arts@encinitasca.gov.

Animal shelter offers Pet Assisted Therapy

Rancho Coastal Humane Society’s Pet Assisted Therapy (PAT) volunteers and their trained pets visit schools, libraries, senior centers, veteran centers, children’s programs and other facilities. The team helps with social development, increased self-esteem, improved mental health and stress reduction, and social skills. Friends of Daley Ranch hold picnic

The Friends of Daley Ranch hold their annual picnic and fundraiser 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 26 on the patio of the Ranch House. The nonprofit volunteer group will report on its achievements and ongoing efforts to preserve and improve Daley Ranch, including future projects. Highlights include Ranch House tour, trail tour, speakers and lunch. Shuttles start 10 a.m. from the main La Honda gate to Ranch House and return starting 1 p.m. Cost is $10; free for members. The Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society holds its annual Rough ‘n’ Cut event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday March 18 at 123 W. Alvarado St. Mineral sales include Himalaya Mine tourmaline,Obsidian, quartz (all sizes), micro collections, fluorescents, calcite, agates and geodes along with collectible mineral flats. San Diego Brain Injury Foundation holds walk to raise awareness

The San Diego Brain Injury Foundation holds its annual Survive Headstrong Walk from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday March 18 at the De Anza Cove, 2740 DeAnza Road in Mission Bay. The nonprofit, headquartered in Liberty Station, provides information, resources, education and community awareness for survivors and their families, to advocate for people with brain injuries. The nonprofit’s mission is to improve the quality of life for brain injury survivors and their families. The event is presented by Gomez Trial Attorneys. Foundation for Women Warriors offers childcare assistance

Vista-based nonprofit Foundation for Women Warriors offers a Childcare Assistance program that provides childcare stipends to student or working military veteran mothers of children up to age 5 for licensed childcare. Humane society holds Wildlife Baby Shower

The San Diego Humane Society is preparing for the spring baby season when thousands of orphaned wild animals will rely on the nonprofit for lifesaving care. The nonprofit seeks the community’s support for its 13th annual Wildlife Baby Shower, a virtual event benefiting its Project Wildlife program. ‘Your Voice, Their Future’ recruiting volunteers

The San Diego nonprofit Voices for Children, which was founded in 1980, is looking for volunteers to advocate for foster children in need. The nonprofit just started a new program called “Your Voice, Their Future” to encourage community members to become Court Appointed Special Advocates aka CASAs. Volunteers are trained and supported by the nonprofit to speak up for foster children in court, school and medical settings to make sure their needs are met. El Camino Quilt Guild meets at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday March 14that its new location, El Corazon Senior Center, 3302 Senior Center Drive. The meeting will feature Quilters University, which consists of about a dozen mini workshops provided by some of the guild’s experts. Soroptimists hold “Live Your Dream” Awards Brunch

Soroptimist International of Vista and North County Inland’s “Live Your Dream” Awards Brunch and 70th Anniversary celebration is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at the Palomar Estates East Clubhouse, 650 S. Scripps Ranch Theatre continues their 43rd Season with the production of “Neat” March 24 and runs through April 16 at their theatre on the campus of Alliant International University, 10455 Pomerado Rd. The play which includes dance, visual arts and spoken word, is written by Charlayne Woodard and directed by Claire Simba. “Neat” is a co-production between Scripps Ranch Theatre and Loud Fridge Theatre Group and previews March 23. Amigos de Vista Lions to hold pancake breakfast next month

Amigos de Vista Lions’ 42nd Annual Pancake Breakfast is from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday Mar. 18 at Gloria McClellan Senior Center, 1400 Vale Terrace Drive. Cost is $8 for a single serving of pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee, and juice. Proceeds support Mission Vista High School Basketball, Vista American Little League and other local charities. ‘Girl’s Night Out’ hits the stage at the Broadway Theater

The Broadway Theater’s first show of its 19th Season is ‘Girl’s Night Out’ runs March 17 to April 2. The musical comedy revolves around four women stranded in a bar during a snow storm “with an amorous Lounge Lizard and a bartender straight out of a Romance Novel.” Written and directed by Broadway Theater co-owner, Randall Hickman, (Life of a Sofa and Public Domain).
